Shifty Oxford
LWA Summer Series Event 5: Oxford SC Sat 13 July 2019
Light and shifty winds made for a tricky day’s sailing at Oxford and judging by the results Ady Rippington and Andy Lacy’s local knowledge might well have played a part in their success. Turnout was a rather disappointing dozen sailors with no youngsters, despite our having hoped to attract some Team 15 s and Technos, maybe it was the light wind forecast, another event or simply exam-itis.
Race One found Rob Kent in the lead at the end of the first lap with Ady Rippington and Peter Murray in pursuit, by the end of Lap 2 Lewis Barnes had overtaken Peter and eventually they crossed the line in that order.
Race Two produced a clear win for Ady, who led the field ahead of Rob and Peter, with the shifty winds upsetting the rest of the sailors.
Rob went quickly to the from in Race Three, followed by Andy, however by the last lap Ady had overtaken Andy and Emily Kent had her best race of the day in 4th.
Race Four produced the same three finishers at the top, but Annette Kent managed to pip Emily for fourth place.
