Fishers Fluctuates

Our Fishers Green event took place on one of the most beautiful days of spring – even though as we were packing up it did get rather grey and the odd drop of rain fell. The wind was coming from a direction which we weren’t used to- from the clubhouse - but there was actually wind!

Amongst our 20 sailors were two on Mistral Equipes, one of which was Fishers Green member Martin Gunn. Alysia Gibson, who in Sicily recently at the Techno Plus Worlds had come 6th in the World overalls and 4th in the Europeans, was today sailing a raceboard with an RS:X sail!

Race One found Rob Kent crossing the line in first place followed by Bob Ingram and Lewis Barnes, but in all the remaining races Lewis pulled out all the stops and recorder three bullets. The vagaries of the wind, the puffs and lulls are evidenced in the occasional double figure finishes which for most of the leaders constituted their discard.

For instance in Race Two, won by Lewis, ahead of Rob, Bob slipped to 14th, but it didn’t prevent him from finishing 3rd overall.

In Race Three Nick Kidd slipped down to 12th, whilst Lewis, Ron and Toby Cave filled the first three places. Race Four was Toby’s turn to screw up, there was a huge tangle at the windward mark and Toby came off badly, finishing 10th. The goodness for discards! Meanwhile Lewis, Rob and Bob filled out the top of the finish sheet.

All in all, an “interesting” day’s sailing, topped off with the customary Fishers Green welcome.
