LWA at Bewl Valley Sat 18 Sep 2021:
We were favoured with much better wind and sunshine than the forecast led us to expect, so it was a very welcome return to Bewl after so long.
18 sailors signed on, amongst others (almost) local boy Andy Gibson, fresh from beating Jon Davis in the Round Sheppey two weeks ago. There were two Div II sailors, Peter Murray and Phil Jackson, out to enjoy the ideal weather for their boards, and our former LWA Chairman, Dave Gilchrist, up from Dorset.
Bewl lived up to its reputation, the wind shifting up to 90 degrees and plenty of holes when you least expected. In Race One Rod Davis got stuck on the start line with his fin caught round the mooring rope of a buoy, which put paid to his chances for that race. At the sharp end of the fleet, the Kent family were in great form, Rob taking first place, Emily third, Annette fourth, split only by Nick Kidd in second.
Race Two found Rob and Peter Murray chased over the line by Nick, with Bob Ingram in fourth place.
The wind seemed to fill in a little more after lunch, making the racing that bit more exciting, in fact the best we have enjoyed at an LWA event for some considerable time. In Race Three Rob continued in winning form, with Annette in second and Nick third. Everything went right for Andy Gibson who improved his overall score with a fourth place.
Race Four started in a brisk breeze which took the leading boards to within a few yards of the windward mark, before it dropped back again. Rob and Nick filled the first two places with Peter third and Bob fourth.
RESULTS:
1: Rob Kent (also 1st Light & 1st Grand Master)
2: Nick Kidd (also 1st Supervet)
3: Peter Murray (also 1st Div II)
4: Annette Kent (also 1st Lady)
5: Emily Kent
6: Bob Ingram (also 1st Vet)
13: Dave Gilchrist ( also 1st 7.8)
