Melting Pot Races 2019 Oxford SC
Despite the promising forecast most of us drove through fog to reach the reservoir, with fingers crossed that the promised sunshine would clear. Sure enough, by 11:00 am the fog had disappeared to be replaced by a gentle south-westerly. Fifteen sailors appeared on the start line, many short sleeves were in evidence, as was the sun cream!
The Race One start was characterised by an unheard-of General Recall! The first time for many years in an LWA event, this due to the port bias on the line and the large bunch which developed at the pin end, thus obscuring the offenders from the Race Officer’s view.
At the restart, our Chairman, Kerry Hastings managed nevertheless to be over the line and received a DSQ. However they do say if you don’t collect the occasional DSQ then you’re not trying hard enough!
Youth came to the fore by the end of Race One in the shape of Galahad Wisbey, Nick Kidd followed in 2nd ahead of Rob Kent in 3rd.
An extra tickle of wind added a touch of spice to Race Two, Toby Cave taking the line honours ahead of Rob and Galahad.
Rob at last got into his stride in the last race, taking first place ahead of Adie Rippington and Toby.
All in all a very pleasant and sunny day’s sailing.
The LWA AGM took place in the afternoon, minutes for which will be posted shortly on the LWA website.
