Fisher Frolics

LWA at Fishers Green Sat 13 April 2019:

Race One was in a gentle 8 knots or so, perfect Div II weather for the likes of Peter Murray who followed in the wake of Lewis Barnes who took this race in some style. Third man over the finish line was Rob Kent, one place ahead of Annette.

The gentle weather continued for Race Two although towards the end a brief hailstorm heralded some worse weather to appear later. Rob made sure of first place in this one ahead of Lewis and Annette with Andy Lacy having his best result of the day in 4th. Annette started on port and led the whole fleet for the first couple of laps but was eventually overhauled.

During lunch the sun came out and we were looking forward to a pleasant afternoon’s sailing but just as we were leaving the bank for Race Three some mighty black clouds appeared and generated horrendous gusts – Vicious Green rather than Fishers Green – so fierce that several sailors decided to return to the clubhouse and sample the coffee.

The fleet was further depleted because most of Galahad Wisbey’s slot flusher had parted company with the board and Lewis Barnes downhaul rope had snapped (or was it a hangover?). Fortunately the start of this race was delayed somewhat but those who did get away were blasted up the first beat, headed by Jon Davis. However the howling gale abated rather quickly and the wind reverted to the 8 knots or so of the morning, Rob overhauled Jon who finished the race in 2nd place ahead of Bob Ingram.

Jozef Bardoczy, who had succeeded in reaching the start line, completed the race in 6th place, a very well-deserved result which made a huge improvement to his overall score.

Those of us who had cowered in the clubhouse during Race Three went out for the last race, which was sailed in the gentle conditions which had re-established themselves. Our Race Officer Graham (first time with a bunch of windsurfers) engineered some excellent course tweaking. Rob took first place, followed by Peter Murray on his Div II ahead of Jon. All in all an interesting day’s sailing – something which Fishers Green always seems to be able to serve up – plus of course the superb tea and cakes at the end of the day!

RESULTS:

1st Overall: Rob Kent (also 1st Light and 1st Vet)

2nd: Peter Murray (also 1st Div II)

3rd: Jon Davis (also 1st Heavy)

4th: Annette Kent - 1st Lady

7th: Andy Lacy – 1st Supervet
